DUI
DUI laws seems like it continually gets tougher in California and we predict it will get even more difficult in the next few years. In addition to representing you for DUI defense, we want our clients to avoid future DUI’s, be able to obtain their license (restricted or full) as soon as they are able too, and avoid the issues related to a DUI like driving on a suspended license, SR-22 insurance suspension, failure to complete DUI school suspension, probation violations (i.e driving with a measurable amount of alcohol, etc), negligent operator suspensions, refusal punishment, enhancements and suspensions, PAS refusal on probation, ignition interlock violations and the value of 1203.4 expungements for employment purposes later on. We try our best but can’t win every DUI case, sometimes our client’s wishes/goals are just to reduce the punishment and appear in court for you as your retained counsel so you don’t get a failure to appear/warrant if you can’t make your court date. However, another big objectives with our current clients is to have lower recidivism rates (second offenses) and lower legal issues that stem from the original DUI by spending the time to educate them and inform them of the legal consequences of the related laws that might pose a hardship for them in the future. One of our recommendations is to go above and beyond what is required (AA’s, self-helps, counseling) to eliminate your risks in the future which are to stop or dramatically reduce the underlying issues and save money. As a result of our experience in this area we can advise you on a lot of the related laws that you have to watch out for to help protect you in the future.
Traffic
We do the same thing for our traffic clients advising the increasesd punishment for priors, suspenions of license offenses, how the California traffic fine system works for speed offenses, traffic school eligiblilty and trying to improve their driving record with increased knowledge and eduction.
Some Tips for Improved Driving
Get enough rest and sleep for quick reaction time and being alert on the road
Constantly scan the road for dangers while driving.
Leave early before driving so you will not have to be in a rush on the road.
Periodically spend time reading and learning about California traffic laws like avoiding right turn on red lights, knowing what to do when a school bus stops and the high fines associated with that, driving on a suspended license because of a dui and the IID requirement, the fine structure for speeding and priors, consequences of excess of 100 mphs, etc.
Always give yourself a lot of defensive space and cushion for the vehicle in front on of you.
Drive on the slow lane and be patient.
Invest in technology upgrades so your google maps or gps navigation is speaking to you in the vehicle for directions so you can always keep your eyes on the road.
